Gloria St Julien Red Blend 2009
"There have been many great Glorias over the years as this property consistently over-performs. The 2009 may be the finest yet produced. Loaded with notes of Christmas fruitcake intermixed with red and black currants, licorice, spice box, and blackberries, this inky/purple-colored wine is atypically full-bodied with a viscous texture, and loads of tannin, extract, and richness. Deep and layered, it will offer thrilling sipping over the next 25+ years...91-93" WA 04/10
The most important thing to note about the 2009 Gloria is its power and depth; there is ample crushed wild blackberry with some cedar box on the nose... almost Napa-like in the perfumery department. Entry is slightly sweet with cherry dominating on the palate plus ample vanilla-tannin for further cellaring. Drink now through 2024. 91 points.
Plush, full bodied. Wet tobacco and blackcurrent fruit at the start, with a slight touch of pencil shavings, on a base of dark plum, almost prune base. Good tannins with a very long, smooth finish. Very Nice! Overall, many strongpoints to this wine, with few, if any weaknesses. Tasted Nov 2012.
