Wine Tasting NotesA multifaceted wine, the Carneros Pinot Noir emerges slowly, revealing complexity in each layer. Initially, one finds wild cherry, raspberry and smoky oak aromas in the glass, which opens gradually to violet and earth notes. A plush and finely s tructured palate conveys the wine's ripe pomegranate, cherry and earth flavors through a long finish.

As is always the case, the 2006 is a study in red fruit andearth. The aromas first display Bing cherry, rose petal andpomegranate, then open to wood spice, mocha and a complex dried leaf note. The palate is both silky and delineated, with an ample core of bright red fruit and autumn spice flavors that echo the nose.
Made from a selection of clones from the winery’s large estate vineyard, this polished, very pretty wine is a classic Carneros Pinot. Dry and elegant, it has an herbal, tobacco edge to the cherry, rhubarb and spiced plum flavors. Very rewarding. Easy to find, with 17,000 cases produced. Drink now 2009.
• 100% Estate grapes • Comprised of 18 different lots of wine • Clones and selections chosen for this blend include Trefethen selection, Dijon 115 and L2, UCD 32, Martini, Colmar 538, Wadenswil and Pommar • Individual vineyard lots were destemmed, lightly crushed and cold-soaked for three days prior to fermentation to extract color and aromas • A variety of traditional and modern maceration techniques were employed during fermentation to extract fruit character without bitterness • Only free run wine was used to create the final blend • Barrel aged for 11 months in 100% French oak barrels (36% new, medium-plus toast) coopered by François Frères, Damy, Billon, Cadus and Berthomieu • Bottled unfined
