Wine Tasting NotesA multifaceted wine, the Carneros Pinot Noir emerges slowly, revealing complexity in each layer. Initially, one finds wild cherry, raspberry and smoky oak aromas in the glass, which opens gradually to violet and earth notes. A plush and finely s tructured palate conveys the wine's ripe pomegranate, cherry and earth flavors through a long finish.
As is always the case, the 2006 is a study in red fruit andearth. The aromas first display Bing cherry, rose petal andpomegranate, then open to wood spice, mocha and a complex dried leaf note. The palate is both silky and delineated, with an ample core of bright red fruit and autumn spice flavors that echo the nose.
Made from a selection of clones from the winery’s large estate vineyard, this polished, very pretty wine is a classic Carneros Pinot. Dry and elegant, it has an herbal, tobacco edge to the cherry, rhubarb and spiced plum flavors. Very rewarding. Easy to find, with 17,000 cases produced. Drink now 2009.
This Pinot Noir offers an abundance of ripe black cherry and black raspberry aromas, forest floor and cinnamon nuances and a wisp of smoke. On the palate, rich cherry, plum and wild berry flavors meld with oak toast as the wine finishes long and smoothly

When Mike Crumly and Bob Iantosca first began to see the results of their experimental Pinot Noir clones planted for sparkling wine, they were pleased. But Iantosca was also curious what those same clones of Pinot Noir would do if they were harvested a bit later, and then made into red wines. In the late 1990s, Iantosca harvested some of the Pinot Noir for experimental red wines, and the results were dramatic. What was so unusual was that the wines showed distinctive aromatics that had more Burgundian notes than are typical for the Carneros, but the lighter color (favored by Iantosca) made the wine seem as if it would be light in flavor and weight. What’s most mystical about this wine is that its lighter color is deceptive: the aroma is bright with distinctive herbal and berry fruit, but the flavors are deep and complex. There is a magnificent grace here as well as loads of flavor. Try with rare roast beef and allow the wine to be the star of the meal.

A wealth of ripe cherry and black plum aromas intermingle with scents of violets, leather and oak spice in the heady nose of this Pinot Noir. Velvety textures carry complex black fruit flavors as well as hints of cinnamon and sandalwood. Firm structure and polished tannins make this a substantial wine with great finesse that can be enjoyed now with robust cuisine or cellared for further development.
