Gloria Ferrer Carneros Pinot Noir 2011
"Here at Gloria Ferrer we set aside a few special places in our estate vineyards for wines like this. Admittedly, a Pinot Geek’s paradise, with roots that go back to the pioneering days of farming Pinot Noir in Carneros. The 2010 vintage is yet another expression, not just of what goes into Gloria Ferrer sparkling wines, but also of what makes Sonoma Carneros such an endlessly fascinating region for Pinot Noir." -Winery
Editorial Reviews for Gloria Ferrer Carneros Pinot Noir
Perhaps a touch hot or just peppery on the nose with some warm forest floor and baking spice notes framing plump black cherry fruit. There is a pepperiness here, a bit in the herbal register. Smooth like silk on entry, this enters the mouth surreptitiously and then appears on the mid palate with pretty good focus and clarity to the herb and forest floor inflected red cherry and cranberry fruit that barely covers a bit of aggressive wood tannins and picks up gentle wood spice notes on the backend. The finish shows some attractive texture, a bit of stem herbal quality and fine grained wood tannins all coming together with fine persistent if showing a touch of rusticity. Shows some power built on a spice of well judged acidity and complexity in a style that would benefit from food, a fine candidate for pairing with planked salmon. 88pts

Gloria Ferrer embodies Spanish winegrowing history, time-honored tradition, and centuries-old winemaking practices in creating exceptional sparkling and estate varietal wines blended to pair perfectly with food.
Succulent raspberry, plum and black cherry fruit aromas and hints of brown spice and forest floor announce this delicious Pinot Noir, perhaps our best ever.
Wine Tasting NotesA brilliant, pink color with streaks of salmon throughout. Aromas of fresh raspberry, citrus and antique rose mark the bouquet while the palate displays a blood orange character (cherry/citrus) and wild strawberry flavors in the crisp, lengthy finish.
Succulent raspberry, plum and black cherry fruit aromas and hints of brown spice and forest floor announce this delicious Pinot Noir, perhaps our best ever. Complex, round and mouth-filling, the wine glides onto the palate displaying pure black cherry and ripe berry flavors, and the long aftertaste is rich yet fresh and agile.
Gloria Ferrer is a winery know primary for excellent sparkling wine from grapes grown in their Carneros estate vineyards. Of course those grapes are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and now with many acres of mature vines these varietals have really started to shine as is very evident in this 2007 Estate Pinot. This wine is produced entirely form the free run juice after a three day cold soak and slow fermentation of the individual vineyard lots. Aged for nine months in French oak (33% new), Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this Pinot 94 points saying "The first of Gloria’s 2007 Pinots to be released, and a promising allure to their future block bottlings. The wine is, in a word, superb. It has ripe raspberry, cherry and blackberry fruit, but also a wonderful earthiness of mushrooms, and the tannin-acid balance is near perfect. A gorgeous young wine to decant and enjoy now."
