The relatively high alcohol content of port (18% in this case) can be a bit overwhelming to the uninitiated but after allowing the nose and palate to adjust you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how approachable this style of wine is. This deep burgundy-colored wine reveals aromas of chocolate plum and cherry (when served at room temperature). Initial sips suggest more red and purple fruit chocolate spice and even cola. The lingering warm and slightly oily finish leaves you wishing you had tried this sooner. This port complements rich sweets or it will do just fine as a standalone aperitif or dessert.
