User Reviews for Glen Carlou Syrah
Add your reviewVery impressed by this. Deep dark ruby colour and bold dark fruit with hints of oak, spice, a little smoke and pepper and large amounts of depth. Tannins are a little strong and a bit of residue left behind but overall an excellent SA Syrah for a reasonable price.
A bold juicy wine. Great flavour - jammy fruits of the forest, mainly red currant and blue berry. Excellent stuff. Not what you call a sophisticated wine, but very drinkable none the less. Only slightly tannic, but also little acidity. 14.5% alcohol. Would probably keep for 3 or 4 years. We paid £14, which is a fair price.
This syrah is freaking awesome! Huge meaty notes, dark fruits, yet somehow manages bright acidity. Great example of South Africa blending old and new world styles brilliantly.
August 2009, really disappointing, I keeping this wine for a special occasion as it was one of the medium expensive in my trip to South Africa, but as I was checking corks in my cellar, this was starting to rotten. Th glass is also weirdly dark with deposits over it. If you have it don't keep, drink asap.

Winemaker's Notes:
"To produce this dense and powerful wine, half the crop is dropped during the growing season. Aromas of spicy blackberry and toasty oak lead to complex flavours of ripe berry fruit, violet and currant on the smooth palate. "
