This has shockingly evolved nose right out of the battle with lots of sweet old wood, a little dirty and funky, lots of cured pork, with a bit of hay and quinine adding complexity. The dirty aromas blow off quickly revealing a tight core of wild yellow cherry fruit and dried citrus pith, with a balsamic note. This is showing superb freshness on the palate, full of red fruit and orange peel flavors that are nice and fresh, really transparent and high toned on the palate, with lovely, very ripe soft tannins on the finish which shows bright tart cherry fruit. This is very 2009 in that it is really almost ready but with classic flavors and structure. A very good 2009 that is a little light on the palate at this point. 91pts

Very tight today but with fabulous balance, this exhibits ripe tannins and integrated acids in a very elegantly balanced, if large scaled entry turning finer on the finish. No doubt that this needs time to knit together, but already shows excellent length, and lovely clarity on the back end, if a bit of heat on the finish. 93pts
A bit tight and a touch dirty on the nose, as is sometimes the case here. Experience has shown that this will clean up nicely. On entry, this is wonderfully textured, elegant, round and plush with great depth of fruit. There’s a nice spice tone here, fine minerality and delicate cherry fruit on the palate. The cherry fruit returns on the finish along with fine herb hints and some strawberry seeds for a particularly long finale. This needs the nose to clean up a bit, but shows promise already. 91pts
Liquory, redwood, rosewood, floral, old books tone, soft, broad in the mouth, a bit tense, nervous, nice tannins. Earthy, old books, a bit of attic, old dusty wood, nice fruit on the backend and into the bacon-fat finish. Dry, old school. (88-90pts)
AWE blind tasting - slightly dirty old school nose, dirty and funky, with lots of cola and herb notes, nice cool entry crisp ranier cherry fruit then turning funky and earthy again, a touch dilute but a nice flavor profile, the tannins are ripe and well managed, a bit lean but with a nice herbal, fruit, licorice array and a hint of sweet ripeness, nice spicy soil tones, and eggshells on the long finish, I can see this getting better 88-89
AWE blind tasting - smells sweetly fruited, candied, roasted herbs, red fruit , touch of red hots, diluted, still some nice crisp, fresh wild raspberry fruits here with mineral tones and a lovely transparency, well made and very drinkable with the fruit gaining intensity on the back end and adding a blood orange note, good length, a nice wine 87-88
AWE blind tasting - coffee candy, yuck, dirties up a bit, gains some nice old school notes, with a touch of oxidation showing, turning minty, dusty and old wood like, smells vaguely like a barn, loose up front but then showing some nice sweet/spicy fruitiness, there’s some cola, almost new world flavors here but there is this weird dichotomy between the old and the new, I am intrigued by this wine, its very complex in this line-up and really stands out but I am confused by it. 87-88
2008, Hold 2018-2038-The 2008 Barolo Le Brunate is quite a bit richer, deeper and more powerful than the Cannubbio, as one might reasonably expect. Here the fruit boasts tons of pure resonance and stuffing while never losing its essential classicism. Plums, black cherries, leather, tar and licorice meld together, supported by firm yet beautifully integrated tannins. The 2008 Brunate is an explosive wine just waiting to emerge. I really love this wine. needs to sit for at least an hour. delicious, dry and fruity. Love it with my petit filet weekly dinner.
The nose was highly expressive with black cherry and raspberry fruits, followed by soil, slate dust and earthy minerals with a hint of V.A. On the palate, it was silky with a full body, showing rich red fruits, sweet spice and saline minerals. It’s structure seemed to creep in with the second sip as drying tannin coated the palate, yet still managed to close with flavors of cherry and wild herbs.
The 1996 Francesco Rinaldi e Figli Barolo Cannubbio showed very rustic, yet highly enjoyable to a lover of traditional Barolo. The nose showed dusty cherry with animal musk and hints of mushroom and undergrowth. On the palate, I found dark sweet fruit with leather and tobacco leading to a medium finish with drying tannins. This bottle could use more time but is enjoyable now with proper decanting. (89 points)
Light to medium red with slight bricking. Great maturing nebbiolo nose of plum, orange zest, anise, black pepper and a bit of animal fur. Sour cherries with rose petal, minerals and tobacco box on the palate. Firm structure with a great tannic to acid balance. This wine certainly has a future ahead of it.
Licorice; Dried fruit; Menthol. Fantastic barolo from an old-school producer.

Rinaldi's 2003 Barolo BrunateLe Coste is deeply flavored and intense with more than enough fruit to balance its tannic structure. The characteristic balsamic notes that are typical of this wine literally jump out of the glass. This seriously long and powerful Barolo is also remarkably accessible and is a great introduction to one of Piedmont's great wines. When tasted separately the different qualities of the two vineyards are striking. Brunate provides the muscle and complexity while Le Coste gives the wine a measure of softness. The Brunate cru, with denser soils, is known for meatier, more structured wines. This Barolo offers elegance, power and complexity with lingering aromas of exotic spice, black fruit and root beer. Itandrsquo;s also exceptionally bright and lively in the mouth and would pair with a hearty wintery dish such as beef Bourguignon.
The 2006 Barolo Le Brunate is the alter-ego to the Cannubbio. Here the fruit is dark, mysterious and totally captivating, with balsamic notes of spice and menthol that develop in the glass. There is wonderful depth and clarity in the glass, not to mention considerable heft, but all within the context of traditionally-made Barolo. The finish is long, pure and austere in the best of senses. Once again, the combination of traditional winemaking with a contemporary approach to the vineyard management, and cellar cleanliness has yielded a wine of exceptional purity. Readers who enjoy firm, ageworthy wines will want to put this high on their shopping lists. Anticipated maturity: 2012andndash;2041.
