Giuseppe Mascarello Barbera Superiore Santo Stefano di Perno 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Va, a little spice and red cherry pie on the nose which is a little flat with aromatic rosemary, herbal, and medicinal components. A bit soft on entry, though with lots of superbly fresh red fruit that shows hints of root beer and ivy in the mouth. With, fresh little furry tannins, and decent but not great acidity, this is a pleasure to drink with a medicinal finale and more herbal ivy notes on the moderately long finish. not entirely typical of Barbera though typical of this bottling. 89pts

The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been growing wines for more than a century and a half, first as farmers running the Manescotto estate in the village of La Morra for the marchesa Giulia Colbert Faletti di Barolo, and then on their own property since the late 1800s.
