Since time immemorial Nebbiolo has been the most highly-prized vine and the wine-growing emblem of Alba and the Langa, and when it is matched with a great wine-making terroir it is capable of expressing itself at sublime levels in wines of remarkable personality, intense bouquet, great smooth tannins, and outstanding possibilities of evolution and resistance over time. The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been growing wines for more than a century and a half, first as farmers running the Manescotto estate in the village of La Morra for the marchesa Giulia Colbert Faletti di Barolo, and then on their own property since the late 1800s. Wild aromas on the nose recall mulberry fruit with notes of redwood and a big pressed flower note. Ripe and rich in the mouth without being heavy at all. This packs in a lot of wild black raspberry fruit with just a hint of astringency and nice gentle tannins that will quickly loosen up, The finish is very fine and focused with good cut to the red plum skin and lightly floral tones that show good length. 89pts

Mauro Mascarello, 4th generation winemaker, still follows his family’s traditional style of winemaking: long macerations and extended aging in “botte grande”. This Barbera exemplifies this time tested practice showing dark berries and hints of geranium.

COLOUR: deep ruby red, with elegant garnet highlights on ageing; NOSE: vinous, varietal, ample; TASTE: powerful, with stuffing and lots of body, well-balanced, round, packed with character, slightly tannic.
