Girasole Vineyards Sangiovese Mendocino County 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Rather minty and floral on the nose with a base note of gingerbread cookie, a hnt of wet dog, and some wiry cranberry tones. On the palate this is light bodied but has a lovely combination of acidity, ripe lean tannins, and transparent yet sweet fruits. The flavors run toward raspberry and amarena cherry with a nice soil tone and some dried herb stem details. The finish is bright and lively, full of sour cherry and refreshing acidity. A good value at this price. 88pts

All water used for irrigation and frost protection is from winter run-off from the pristine watersheds that surround the vineyards. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

A solidly built wine that is full on the palate. Tangy warmth, a bit of charred wood, a dash of blackberry. A little rough at first, but good after a day or two.
