This bottling has been remarkably consistent for Girard over the years. Itrsquo;s always very good to excellent, and this 2006, a blend of all five Bordeaux red varieties, is one of their best ever. The wine is rich in blackberries, currants, chocolate, sandalwood and cinnamon spices, wrapped into impressively fine tannins. Drink soon, with decanting.
A classy Cabernet that offers richness without excess, with aromas of ripe cherry, plum and blackberry, with a touch of espresso. Excellent balance, lively acidity, firm tannins and a long, complex aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec. Drink now through 2009.
Sharply focused, tight and richly flavored, yet trim and balanced, offering a beam of currant, black cherry, herb and olive. Gains depth and nuance on the long, integrated finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot. Drink now through 2017.
The dark plum/ruby-hued 2006 Artistry (54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, etc.) is medium-bodied and fresh, but somewhat clipped and monolithic.
Here's a pleasant, fruity, rich Bordeaux blend that impresses for its sheer wealth of flavors. Floods the mouth with blackberries, cherries, red and black currants and sweet, smoky oak, with firm but finely ground tannins. Feels direct and simple now, but that could be a function of youth. Try holding for 4-6 years and see where it goes.
The 2006 vintage is a dark, ruby red wine with aromas of kirsch, dark plum, raspberry, sugar cookies and nutmeg. There are also hints of herbal tea, saddle leather, and toasted walnuts. On the palate, this firmly-textured wine offers a full-mouth feel with flavors of chocolate/cherry truffles, blackberry tart and currants. The firm tannins are very well integrated, making the wine approachable at an early age. There are multiple layers to this complex blend that reveal themselves through decanting or by giving the wine time to open up in the glass.
