Food Pairings for Girard Cabernet Sauvignon Meritage Artistry Napa
Editorial Reviews for Girard Cabernet Sauvignon Meritage Artistry Napa
Smoky with notes of hickory nuts, leather, shoe polish and intense black fruits on the nose. This is an impressive wine, polished and focused yet at the same time it's somewhat massive and a bit of a black hole in the mouth. The wood tannins fits like a glove over the generous black and slightly blue tinged fruits, but obscures some of the detail here. The overall impression is one of black smoothness with some minty and toasty details emerging on the back end and gaining ground on the moderately long, slightly medicinal finish. I shouldn’t like this as much as I do but like a black hole, it draws you in. 90pts
61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, 9% Petite Verdot, 6% Merlot Big sweet tobacco leaf notes up front are joined by sweet floral tones with hints of mint, jasmine and sassafras accenting the plummy black currant fruit. This is big wine: rich and packed with flavor in the mouth, though it’s rather bright and firmly medium-bodied in the mouth. There are plenty of acids here that give the red and blue fruits freshness and a bright quality, but the alcohol is apparent on the palate and adds some heat to the finish. The tannins build through the mouth and really come on rather strongly on the woody, minty finish. A lot of wine, but very young today. It’s got good freshness but the alcohol and intensity will be a turnoff for some people. 90pts
Multilayered richness Long finish.
Girard offers a great wine at numerous price points. The cab is flavorful and inviting with limited bite.
Loamy earth and red berry on the nose. Nice soft fruit tones. A good blend. The power comes on the finish. Some warm, high alcohol on the finish as well. - Tasted at winery 12/30/10
A soft, even medley of berries tiptoes on the palate. An enchanting pleasure.
This was a nice Bordeaux style blend that really needs some time decanting before drinking. Dark color and substantial mouth feel. This is nice.
Girard artistry 2005 has a lovely, lovely nose. A medium mouthfeel, with a nice, if not extravagant finish. The flavor mixes red and black fruits. Probably worth its 90 rating.
It was this wine that first showed me that at the intersection of great wine, good food, and amazing friends there is real joy in wine. It is wines like this that add life to life! Being a relative newbie, I had the pleasure of enjoying this wine at a private tasting while visiting Napa Valley. It was paired with some aged sharp cheddar that made the richness and complexity of this wine jump out of the glass and onto my palate. I will never be the same.

Thirty years after first planting its vineyards, Girard continues to produce wines reflecting the quality that has made Napa Valley the most famous New World wine-growing region in the world.
Our 2010 Artistry has aromas of toasted hazelnuts and festive Christmas spices. Boysenberries and currants saturate the palate aside flavors of exotic bing cherries. Well-structured tannins round out this vintage with a beautiful, tobacco and spice finish
Very rich and ripe in fruit, and also rich in new oak. The combination makes for mouth-filling blackberry and cherry pie filling, currant, licorice, dark chocolate and spicy flavors that are frankly delicious. The finish is quick, suggesting this lovely wine is best enjoyed in its youth.
Winemaker Notes - The 2008 vintage is richly garnet in color with aromas of black cherry, ripe plum and cassis. There are also nuances of leather, toasted hazelnut and winter spices. On the palate, this firmly-textured wine offers a full-mouth feel with flavors of coffee, chocolate-covered cherries, berry tart and currants. The tannins are very well integrated, making the wine approachable at an early age. There are multiple layers to this complex blend that reveal themselves through decanting or by giving the wine time to open up in the glass. Cuvee: 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, 6% Merlot and 5% Petite Verdot.
Sharply focused, tight and richly flavored, yet trim and balanced, offering a beam of currant, black cherry, herb and olive. Gains depth and nuance on the long, integrated finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot. Drink now through 2017.
The dark plum/ruby-hued 2006 Artistry (54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, etc.) is medium-bodied and fresh, but somewhat clipped and monolithic.
Here's a pleasant, fruity, rich Bordeaux blend that impresses for its sheer wealth of flavors. Floods the mouth with blackberries, cherries, red and black currants and sweet, smoky oak, with firm but finely ground tannins. Feels direct and simple now, but that could be a function of youth. Try holding for 4-6 years and see where it goes.
