Gilbert Picq & Ses Fils Chablis 2014

Member Review by vin0vin0:

Very nice Chablis with a bit of flinty minerality, nice acidity, lemon pith, maybe a touch of lime. Excellent QPR.

Wine Info: Classic in every sense with tart apple, lime, flint and great nervosity. An amazing value in village level Chablis. ** Only 1 in Stock **

The 2013 Chablis was tasted from three tanks that Didier will blend together that included some premier crus to make up the shortfall. This has undergone racking in March. It has a light and airy bouquet with fine definition and elegance and hints of fresh lime in the background. The palate already has a sense of nonchalant breeziness about it, with fine acidity and a crisp green apple finish. Fine. Drink now–2018.

Mint, apricot pit, sage and light, floral-infused, honeyed notes meld together in Picq’s 2013 Chablis. Ample and broad this impeccably textured wine captures the essence of the house style. I tasted the 2013 in three components and then in an approximate blend.

Bright pale yellow with green highlights. A ripe pineapple scent leaps out of the glass, joined by candied lemon peel and sexy spices. Sweet, supple and fruity; an easygoing, round, very showy vin de plaisir with a note of white truffle. Finishes chewy and persistent.

The generic Picq 2011 Chablis offers scents and palate saturating flavors of fresh lemon, Rainier cherry and salted, herbed chicken stock. Invigoratingly bright and lusciously juicy, its firm palate underlain by stone and chalk, this finishes with energetic persistence. Twelve thousand bottles of this went to the U.S. alone, so tap into this outstanding value and exemplar of its lowly appellation while you still can. I suspect it will perform admirably through at least 2016.
