- IWC 91 (12/2000): High-toned, floral aromas of cassis, tobacco, mocha, dark chocolate and brown spices. Supple and pliant for the vintage, but with sound underlying structure and excellent vinosity. Already offers enticing inner-mouth perfume. Finishes with good grip, solid but ripe tannins and persistent fruit. Subtle notes of rose and violet.

- WA 90-92 (8/1999): The 1996 Barolo La Serra exhibits a deep, saturated ruby color, as well as dried herb, tobacco, spice box , cherry liqueur and coffee aromas, superb density, huge extract, and a long, full-bodied, moderately tannic finish. This classic Barolo possesses super purity and considerable glycerin. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2024.
