Giacosa Barolo Falletto 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

94+ points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): The 2007 Barolo Falletto is an overachieving wine, even at this high level. The bouquet has a level of delineation, sweetness, inner perfume and nuance generally only found in Giacosa's Red Label Riservas. The Falletto impresses for the intensity of its dark fruit and superb overall balance. The extroverted personality of the vintage is quite evident, especially as the wine sits in the glass. Menthol, flowers and licorice add the final notes of complexity on the finish. This is an especially racy Barolo from Bruno Giacosa, but the trademark elegance is there. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032. (Feb 2011)

Bruno Giacosa:
The story starts in a simple way, with the native varietals of the Langa and Roero regions and vineyards cultivated with loving care. It continues with pure, meticulous vinification, with ageing in grand oak barrels and with unforgettable Reserves. The story starts in a simple way, with the native varietals of the Langa and Roero regions and vineyards cultivated with loving care. It continues with pure, meticulous vinification, with ageing in grand oak barrels and with unforgettable Reserves. But it also includes, naturally enough, the choice not to bottle those mediocre vintages deemed unworthy of vinification. Bruno’s art encompasses passion and clear judgement but, above all, the utmost respect for his product, its admirers and for the beautiful countryside where he and his family were born and raised. The Azienda Agricola Falletto Winery comprises twenty hectares of vineyards within the Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco areas. The vine growing and wine making processes are followed through with care from beginning to end, culminating with vinification and ageing within our cellars in Neive. Some of our wine is produced with grapes grown by those farmers who have always worked our winery and whose prestigious vineyards truly deserve the ‘Bruno Giacosa’ label. Read less

The nose takes a long time to bring anything to the table, getting some vanilla and plums but really reticent nose here. The palate is better, very sweet and full boded, good tannic quality and a decent finish. Not much here yet. Blame the vintage

Popped and poured. Loved it. Classic profile, rose pedals, red berries, leather. Great concentration. Very enjoyable. Started to close after an hour but was gone by that time

Lovely dark and rich ruby red. The nose is all Barolo for me, dark fruits, plummy, sweet, a little spicy with a nice mineral quality. The palate is really full and fruity, lush and thick with more of those dark fruits coming through on great silky tannis, really good finish to this wine, terrific length. The 2001 is a really solid effort, very satisfying

A really deep, intense ruby red with slight brownish hues typical of Barolo. Spectacular nose, truly opulent with plums, raspberries, and tar turning floral at the end. The palate is thick and jammy, really full bodied, sweet with berries and strikenly fresh and silky with perfectly balanced tannins. The finish is focused yet subtle and lasts a good half minute. Delicious wine that will improve over the next 10 years. (SN 11/07)

This is a bright and focused red with plum, berry and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. This shows class and strength.
