Food Pairings for Giaconda Nantua les Deux Stelvin
If anybody in the state of Victoria can boast a first rate track record, it is Rick Kinzbrunner of Giaconda, a winery he set up in the Beechworth District in the extreme north-west corner of the state in 1985. Tasting any of his varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet - with 8 to 12 years bottle age, shows that they are all world class. Nantua les Deux is a fascinating Chardonnay-Roussanne blend. The first crop of Roussanne, in 1998, was tiny and the barrel was filled up with Chardonnay making an intriguing wine, providing the inspiration for Nantua les Deux. This is the only Chardonnay released from the 2009 vintage, and includes the Estate Vineyard Chardonnay. It boasts a complex nose, more concentrated than usual due to the Estate Chardonnay inclusion. With a lovely creamy textured palate, rich and concentrated, long crisp finish with lemony acidity this excellent wine is sure to impress. "It offers up an alluring bouquet of pain grille, mineral, biscotti, pear, and tropical aromas. Medium-bodied, elegant, yet remarkably concentrated, this full-flavored offering will evolve for several more years and provide pleasure to 2018" (Wine Advocate, Dec 09). It is great to drink now and has the potential to improve over the next 3-5 years. An excellent white to pair with creamy seafood linguine, thai dishes or creamy pasta sauces.
