Giacomo Conterno Barolo DOCG 1961

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This just smells gorgeous with smoky, spicy nuanced layers, middle eastern spices, a strong balsamic incense note, roasted hazelnut, cigar ash, with small, sweet wild berry fruits in liquor, elegant and absolutely seductive. In the mouth the wild red cherry fruit pops right on entry filling out the high-toned, wiry mid-palate with floral and spice tones. Supremely elegant if fading this retains excellent purity and ends with a touch of bitter cherry fruit which is just a touch short. An excellent bottle 94pts

Fully mature and offering a classic aged nebbiolo character resplendent with aromatics of faded dried flowers, orange peel, and balsamic notes this is a wine of contemplation, quiet and dignified with fillagree grace and delicate elegance.
