Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia 2008
"One of the best Cascina Francias in a long time. It shows aromas of melons and plums with hints of hazelnut and coca. Full body and dense with gorgeous silky tannins and an incredible finish. The texture is wonderful. Pure velvet. Chocolate and cedar. Orange peel. So long and beautiful. Love the finish. Very approachable now but better in four or five years...96" JamesSuckling.com 07/12 "The 2008 Barolo Cascina Francia possesses gorgeous inner perfume, layers of sublime fruit and fabulous overall balance. Editorial Reviews for Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia
Tight and minera on the nose with bit of cocoa dusted fruit under sweet floral base notes rich with tar, licorice, and macerated herb aromas. Rich if a bit tough in the mouth, this is all about grape skins today, with austere and almost bitter intense flavors of cherry, medicinal, and earth on the palate, all topped with aromatic floral and red fruited notes that drive the long, finessed finish. There is an innate sweetness here that will emerge with time, though there are suggestions of what this wine will become on the long finish which shows perfect density and superbly ripe tannins. 94pts

The Barbera grape makes one of the many everyday red wines of the region. This is by no means an ordinary expression of Barbera. It's age worthy and a delight to drink. Elegant on the palate and filled with juicy plums, spice and mineraled tannins. Giacomo Conterno is one of the finer, classic producers in Piedmont.
