Editorial Reviews for Giacomo Brezza & Figli Barolo
Wild raspberry wafts from the glass along with aromas of licorice, tar, hints of woodsmoke and tree bark. Moderately rich in the mouth, this is bright and taut with soft but abundant tannins and lovely red fruit on the mid-palate. Nice follow though and a very classic profile. This remains very fresh with a lovely, gentle quality to the tannins. Fruity but taut and succulent. 90pts
AWE blind tasting - herbal and floral nose with some background cola spice, more macerated wild cherry, clumps of weeds with fresh dirt a bit of chalk, fresh and taut, a bit languid on entry, firming up slightly but this remains a bit closed in the mouth, nice fruit a touch of smoky campfire but it doesn’t pull itself together, a little medicinal mint tannins are nice, decent 86-87
AWE blind tastng - nice and aromatic, plenty of sandalwood and rosehips, with nice cranberry and raspberry fruit tones, and a touch of spearmint, shows nice concentration up front, a more gentle character nice depth to the slightly simple, but burnished cherry, spice, tobacco and aromatic wood tinged mp, leads to a relatively long bright finish, nicely done and with upside potential, 88-89
This opened with a sharp, dirty note of chlorine before settling down to offer up a cool for 1990 nose with god ripe, spicy lingonberry fruit that offered notes of complicating amaretto and perfume. Offering lovely balance and opening with sightly underfruited feel, though the structure is perfectly ripe, this rounds out nicely gaining depth and sweetness to the simple fruit and finishing with a citrussy top note. A successful 1990 that is at peak drinking and very satisfying. 2007-2016
