Ghost Pines Red Blend Sonoma/Joaquin/Napa Counties 2012

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Wine Description: Aromas of blueberry and blackberry pie are framed nicely by salted caramel, spice and truffle notes. Rich and full-bodied, this blend offers chewy tannins and a long, luscious finish. Viticulture Notes: In 2012, we selected a majority of the fruit for this blend from Sonoma County, with the balance coming from select vineyards in Napa and San Joaquin counties. Nearly half of the grapes for this blend were sourced from the esteemed Monte Rosso Vineyard. Named California’s Vineyard of the Year in 2012, Monte Rosso’s red volcanic soils and steep slopes provided depth and intensely flavorful characteristics to this wine. All three counties saw ideal conditions throughout the 2012 vintage. A warm growing season led to great maturation and flavor development in our grapes, which has translated to intensely concentrated color and flavor in our wines. Winemaking Notes: A showcase of the greatness blending can achieve, each lot of our Ghost Pines Red Blend was fermented separately before assembling the final wine. When blending, we originally looked at a base blend of primarily Petite Sirah and Zinfandel, but felt that something was missing. So, we decided to blend in some more structure and palate weight with supplementary Cabernet lots from Sun Lake Vineyard and Ghost Pines Vineyard in Napa. For additional complexity, we added layers of Cabernet and Syrah from Monte Rosso Vineyard and some lots of Syrah and Tannat from MacMurray Ranch. Varietal Content: 31% Zinfandel 29% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Petite Sirah 7% Syrah Varietal Origin: 56% Sonoma County 30% Napa County 14% San Joaquin County Titratable Acidity: 0.59g/100ml pH: 3.73 Alcohol Level: 14.6% Residual Sugar: .22g/100ml
