Ghost Pines Merlot Winemaker's Blend 2013

Editorial Review by Snooth Editorial:

Sweet white chocolate and vanilla bean note coming off the nose with a touch of blackberry. Deepens considerably in the glass with tannic coffee and chocolate notes, blueberry and black currant fruit and a vanilla cream note on the oaky finish.

There’s lots of rich, jammy blackberry, cherry and oak flavor in this Merlot, with a gentle scour of firm tannins. It’s not an ager, but offers plenty of upfront pleasure for drinking now.

Made from 71% northern Sonoma and 29% Napa fruit, the 2010 Merlot offers an underlining minerality/earthy personality intertwined with lots of fleshy black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of chocolate and espresso roast. This rich, medium-bodied Merlot is ideal for drinking over the next 3–4 years.

This is a new brand from Gallo, named after a vineyard the Louis M. Martini winery used to designate. It's a rich, sturdy Merlot. with a thick tannin structure, and shows forward flavors of cherries, black and red currants, licorice, blackberry tea, cola and spice. Not an ager, but impressive for its complexity.

The excellent 2006 Merlot may merit an outstanding score with more bottle age. Notes of mocha, black cherries, coffee, and chocolate soar from the glass of this dark plum-colored wine. It possesses terrific fruit, full body, a lush, hedonistic mouthfeel, and a heady, succulent finish. Enjoy this juicy Merlot over the next 5-6 years.
