Ghost Hill Cellars "Spirit of Pinot Noir" Dry Rose 2011

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A bit meaty on the nose with notes of burnished cherry, pomegranate and perfumed apricot fruit, along with a sharp chalky tone. A bit large scaled but nicely dry, this is surprisingly rich with bright acidity and a suggestion of tannin helping to fill the mouth. There’s lovely, leafy-edged red berry fruit here, touched with a hint of blood orange that turns a bit compact on the moderately long finish. The finish is almost a touch bitter with some herb stem and slightly soapy cilantro elements. A bit aggressive. 87pts

Rather nice on the nose with gentle woodsy, forest floor notes laying under raspberry/ rhubarb fruit. Good acidity but paired with a nice edge of sweetness that helps support the fruit. There’s a touch of orange peel here accenting the wild raspberry fruit in a slightly glossy, rather smooth package. Nice fruit persistence on the long finish, which pairs those raspberries and wild strawberries with a touch of powdered mineral. 89pts

one of the best dry roses that i have ever tried... most people see pink and think sweet: not here... forget "jolly ranchers" and think strawberry-rhubarb pie! NOTE: not filtered, this wine has noticeable sediment

Strawberry Yogurt galore on the nose, red fruit on the palette, and a stellar choice for late August!
