Founded in 1880, Geyser Peak Winery is one of California’s oldest and most award-winning wineries. Founded by Augustus Quitzow, the winery was built in 1882 in Geyserville, making it one of the pioneering California wineries of the time. Geyser Peak Winery consists of 5 vineyards, one of which is located in the Russian River Valley AVA, while the others are in Alexander Valley. Since most of the grapes come from Alexander Valley, the growing regions have long ripening seasons. Alexander Valley is a great region for growing Cabernet Sauvignon vines, but Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc are also successfully grown. Ondine Chattan and Jaeson Mackura, winemakers for Geyser Peak Winery, are also behind the screw cap movement that is very controversial among wineries and consumers alike. All of their white wines are bottled using screw caps, or “Stelvin closures” as they are often called (Stelvin is actually a brand of screw caps, like Ziplock is a brand synonymous with zip bags and Xerox is a brand synonymous with photocopy machines). Refreshing and compact, with apple, spice and lemony citrus flavors and a lingering, fragrant note of jasmine. Drink now.

Tasted in a flight of far more expensive Chards, this one held its own. Creamy, with apple and peach flavors and a touch of oak and lees, it will satisfy your basic Chardonnay instincts at a good price.

There's plenty of oaky richness in this wine, on top of nicely ripe flavors that smack of pineapples and peaches and cinnamon spice. It shares much in common with the best Alexander Valley Chards.

With jammy peach, apricot, pear and pineapple fruit flavors, this is a pretty nice everyday Chard, at a fair price. It has a creamy texture and a spicy aftertaste.

A bit quick on the finish, but otherwise a nice everyday Chardonnay. Shows a soft, buttercream texture, with dry, subtle flavors of pineapples, pears and buttered toast.

A high-toned cabernet, this is red-fruited and herbal with a sharp black cut of acidity. Soften it with flank steak.

This tart, gentle chardonnay needs nothing more that roast chicken to match its sweet warmth.
