Geyser Peak Cabernet Sauvignon Block Collection As 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Within its narrow confines, Alexander Valley provides a surprisingly diverse array of terroirs for Cabernet Sauvignon. The best lots for this wine came from well-drained hillside and benchland vineyards located above the valley floor. In 2006, we further refined our Cabernet program with particular attention to our estate Cabernet vineyards, as well as to minute variations in ripeness levels within a given vineyard. By picking only specific rows, or blocks, of vines at a particular time, and then fermenting these block separately, we were able to ensure optimal ripeness and quality.

Founded in 1880, Geyser Peak Winery is one of California’s oldest and most award-winning wineries. Founded by Augustus Quitzow, the winery was built in 1882 in Geyserville, making it one of the pioneering California wineries of the time. Geyser Peak Winery consists of 5 vineyards, one of which is located in the Russian River Valley AVA, while the others are in Alexander Valley. Since most of the grapes come from Alexander Valley, the growing regions have long ripening seasons. Alexander Valley is a great region for growing Cabernet Sauvignon vines, but Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc are also successfully grown. Ondine Chattan and Jaeson Mackura, winemakers for Geyser Peak Winery, are also behind the screw cap movement that is very controversial among wineries and consumers alike. All of their white wines are bottled using screw caps, or “Stelvin closures” as they are often called (Stelvin is actually a brand of screw caps, like Ziplock is a brand synonymous with zip bags and Xerox is a brand synonymous with photocopy machines). Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Dark fruit on the nose, cherries, dark berries, pepper, and some oak, nice body and finish

For $16 I thought it was not that good. Medium bodied wine. Good nose but very light flavor. Very High tannins. Need to eat with meat.

Nose was smooth and rich with blackberry and cranberry. On the palate we got tart berries and flat Dr Pepper underneath from the hints of black cherry and malty caramel. Tannins and acidity were mellow overall. Finish was short with some berries and pear. For the price, we expected more complexity.

Winemaker Notes - Known for luscious Cabernet Sauvignons, this wine is a classic example of Geyser Peak Winery s intense, lively style. Forward fruit characters of black cherry and blackberry dominate the aromas, with underlying grace notes of dark chocolate and black pepper. In typical Geyser Peak style, the bright fruit is nicely supported by a restrained oak character. The palate is rich, round and lush, seamlessly pairing the cherry and berry fruit with a hint of spice and vanilla. The fine-grained tannins meld into a persistent, lingering finish.

This wineandrsquo;s clean red fruit expands with air, developing subtle notes of cassis and spice. It's an elegant cabernet, ready to decant and an easy match for roast leg of lamb.

This red displays savory herb, sage, cedar and currant notes, with a licorice edge to the dried berry flavors. Drink now through 2016.

I was impressed by the quality of this Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It starts off with aromas of ripe blackberries and peppery spice. The flavors of black cherries and expresso are bright and fresh, with soft tannins. Serve with meat loaf and sautandeacute;ed mushrooms.

Light cherry fruit and gruff, coffee-scented tannins meld into a soft and generous cabernet with a little air. Itandrsquo;s simple and juicy, to serve with roast lamb.
