The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques is impeccably balanced from start to finish. Firm, yet elegant, tannins support a dark, round core of fruit as this muscular wine opens up in the glass. Reduction blocks the nose but there is excellent vibrancy and punch to the intensely mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that possess fine delineation and a lovely sense of underlying tension on the complex, persistent and palate staining finish.... Winemaker's Notes:

"This plush red is infused with plum, blackberry, smoke and spice flavors, well-constituted with acidity and tannins. This tightens up on the finish, as plum and spice notes return on the tobaccotinged aftertaste...91" WS 05/12 "Good deep, fresh red. Lively aromas of black cherry, licorice and menthol. Silky-sweet on the palate, with solid minerality enlivening the black raspberry and licorice flavors. Densely packed wine with lovely emerging perfume of lavender, spices and white pepper. Finishes with ripe tannins. The crop level was a very-low-for-the-vintage 35 hectoliters per hectare due to the high percentage of tiny berries, noted Mortet. A superb showing today for this village offering...91" IWC 03/12 "The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes across a soft, delicate and ready to go.
