Denis Bachelet said that 2004 was hardly the best the growing seasons. For much of the summer, we had low and very gray skies with limited luminosity. Mix in an extremely cold March with three hail storms here in Gevrey and moderate oidium pressures and you had a recipe for disaster. I believe the key to getting good grapes was to severely control yields because otherwise, there was no way the vines could adequately ripen the big yields that appeared, probably in compensation for the tiny yields in 2003.
