User Reviews for Gernot Heinrich Red

Winemaker's Notes:

Gernot Heinrich has 30 hectares of vines in Gols, Burgenland, Austria’s easternmost province, only a few kilometres from the Hungarian border. After graduating in viticulture from Klosterneuberg, Gernot’s vinous travels in Bordeaux, Spain, California and Italy convinced him that his best approach was to use indigenous grapes to try and make the highest quality, most characteristic wines he could. He has added a judicious amount of international varieties such as Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah. He has been acquiring vineyards and planting local red grapes such as Blaufränkisch, St Laurent and Zweigelt for the last ten years. On the nose, this fresh, youthful wine has sweet cherry perfumes with lightly spicy, sweet ripe fruit on the palate. Soft, rounded tannins and an approachable, supple structure make it perfect for early drinking.
