Gerard Mugneret Vosne-Romanée 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

The fireworks really get started with his pair of excellent village wines, one from Gevrey-Chambertin and one from Vosne-Romanée. Like all of Monsieur Mugneret’s wines, the grapes are completely destemmed and given a couple of days pre-fermentation maceration (à la Henri Jayer and his cousins, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée Mugneret of Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg) to set the colors and release more aromatic complexity prior to the start of fermentation. The village wines see a modicum of new oak (anywhere from ten to fifteen percent, depending on the style of the vintage), and bottled fifteen to eighteen months after the vintage. They share a wonderful purity and elegance, while both deliver admirable stuffing for their levels.
