Gerard Bertrand quickly developed a wine merchant business by selecting winemakers and estates that shared his sense of what was called for. In order to express his talent as a winemaker beyond his native appellation of the Corbières, he chose to invest in other wines of the Languedoc with strong potential. In 1994 he bought the Cigalus Vin de Pays d’Oc parcels, then three years later the 58 hectares of Château Laville-Bertrou in Minervois La Livinière. A forerunner in the Languedoc, Gerard Bertrand understood the evolution in consumer behavior towards expressive, well-balanced and elegant wines. By offering great wines at fair prices his success was immediate. The Prestige Wines of Gerard Bertrand quickly became the quality reference in the opinion of the professionals. In the footsteps of his father, Gerard has been contributing to the epic story of the Languedoc in these past years; he is the payee of the qualitative changes made to a good number of Languedoc terroirs and estates. He notably defends Boutenac as a terroirs and fights for its recognition by the INAO (Institut National des Appellations d’Origine). In return of his efforts, and as a proof of the quality of his wines, consumers quickly take up Gerard Bertrand’s wines and repeat it again … the development of his business acknowledges this success. The region of Picpoul de Pinet is one of the earliest civilised places on earth and has been a wine making area for over 2000 years. The village of Pinet is situated near Thau where the noble grape known as Piquepoule was first thought to be grown and which in turn gave the name to the wine known today as Picpoul de Pinet – a wine produced from the limestone soils of the Mediterranean and the celebrated southern French sun. Gérard Bertrand was named in 2012 as the "European Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast and "Red Wine Maker of the Year" by the IWC. Grapes : 100% Picpoul de Pinet Region: France / Languedoc Roussillon Maker: Gérard Bertrand Notes : Pale yellow hew with intense aromas of exotic and citrus fruits, with hints of mineral, floral and vegetable notes. Fresh and aromatic, this great wine combines fresh aromas with fine structure and a very long finish. Serve : Best enjoyed young and served at 8°C with shell fish, grilled fish and other light Mediterranean salads. ABV : 13% Suitable for Vegetarians
