Saint-Chinian's viticultural traditions date back to the Middle Ages. These vineyards are ideally suited on elevated south facing slopes dominated by a schist based soil. Gérard Bertrand was named in 2012 as the "European Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast and "Red Wine Maker of the Year" by the IWC. Grapes : 80% Grenache Noir and 20% Grenache Gris Region: France / Languedoc Roussillon Maker: Gérard Bertrand Notes : A ruby-red colour with shimmering hints of violet. On the nose, it reveals aromas of very ripe red and black fruit. On the palate, the wine is full and well-balanced with jammy aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry, backed by distinctive woody notes. Serve : Served at 10-12°C t his wine is perfect served with wild berries fruits desserts, or on blue cheese. It is also very enjoyable as an aperitif. ABV : 16% Suitable for Vegetarians

Gerard Bertrand quickly developed a wine merchant business by selecting winemakers and estates that shared his sense of what was called for. In order to express his talent as a winemaker beyond his native appellation of the Corbières, he chose to invest in other wines of the Languedoc with strong potential. In 1994 he bought the Cigalus Vin de Pays d’Oc parcels, then three years later the 58 hectares of Château Laville-Bertrou in Minervois La Livinière. A forerunner in the Languedoc, Gerard Bertrand understood the evolution in consumer behavior towards expressive, well-balanced and elegant wines. By offering great wines at fair prices his success was immediate. The Prestige Wines of Gerard Bertrand quickly became the quality reference in the opinion of the professionals. In the footsteps of his father, Gerard has been contributing to the epic story of the Languedoc in these past years; he is the payee of the qualitative changes made to a good number of Languedoc terroirs and estates. He notably defends Boutenac as a terroirs and fights for its recognition by the INAO (Institut National des Appellations d’Origine).
