Gérard Bertrand Coteaux du Languedoc Picpoul-de-Pinet 2010
The average yield is 25 hecto liters per hectare. After “greenharvesting” in June, the grapes are picked in late September when they have reached perfect ripeness. The grapes are de-stemmed (separated from their stalks) and then placed inv ats to macerate for 10 to 15 days. The pumping-over and maturing process ensure that the “best” of the skins are extracted before pressing. Ageing takes place partly in 225-litre barrels, after which the wine is bottled.
Editorial Reviews for Gérard Bertrand Coteaux du Languedoc Picpoul-de-Pinet
Rather stemmy on the nose with blooming aromas of wild black cherry jam, licorice and violet candies, slight root vegetable notes and a deep medicinal vein. This enters the mouth with a light touch, though there are noticeable tannins here offering early mouthgrab. The flavors are fairly intense, lightly fruity and dominated by stony mineral notes and sweet root vegetable flavors with a finish that is moderately long and brisk with plenty of dusty tannins and flavors of charcoal and old wood accenting the fading red berry fruit. 85pts
Dark earthy aromas. Little fruit on the nose. Elegance yet rustic factor. Nose is off putting for me.
fruit more pronounced here layered with peach, apricots, and honey, very aromatic, nice acidity and balance of fruit, lovely length as well
Smells smokey and meaty, blackberries and cherries. Really nice flavor, complex.
Very nutty, like peanut butter. Better tasting than it smells, but a bit confusing with such a strong peanut flavor.
Cherry and cola with a bit of grassy flavor
Awesome wine for a great price - Gentle flavours with room to grow - Blackcurrant flavours, medium-full bodied - maybe slightly tannic.

The region of Picpoul de Pinet is one of the earliest civilised places on earth and has been a wine making area for over 2000 years. The village of Pinet is situated near Thau where the noble grape known as Piquepoule was first thought to be grown and which in turn gave the name to the wine known today as Picpoul de Pinet – a wine produced from the limestone soils of the Mediterranean and the celebrated southern French sun. Gérard Bertrand was named in 2012 as the "European Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast and "Red Wine Maker of the Year" by the IWC.
