Christophe Roumier reported that his 2001 yields were down slightly from 2000, averaging 40 hl/ha for the villages wines, 36 hl/ha for the premiers crus and approximately 32 hl/ha for the grand crus; this compares to between 43 and 38 for the 2000 vintage. The malos were very slow to finish and some wines were still finishing in September, which was when the wines were first racked. Medium ruby. Fresh, reserved and aromatically tight with very firm, rustic and rather extracted flavors that offer good flesh and strong herbaceous notes plus a lovely finishing sappiness. In short, this is bigger, richer and more structured but not finer.
