Christophe Roumier calls 2002 a beautiful vintage. The wines are sweet, pure and elegant with fine balance with ripe tannins and it's the type of vintage that will drink well young but age well. Overall, we had slightly less yield than in 2001 though it varied vineyard by vineyard. For example, we were up approximately 10% in Bonnes Mares and Amoureuses but down 25% in Musigny. In sum, it's a really pretty vintage that appeals to me. The nose hasn't budged an inch since my original review in-bottle review and rests entirely in the red fruit spectrum and rather than spice, there is an intense floral and violet quality followed by detailed, ultra pure and tautly muscular flavors that deliver real punch and a lovely minerality on the incredibly long backend. A complete and seamless wine of enormous complexity and considerable underlying reserve plus enough structure for at least three plus decades of life.
