Burgundy, FranceGeorges Duboeuf Macon-Villages is a white wine gem from one of the better-known French negociants that nonetheless well represents its appellation. As for all of Burgundy from Macon to Tournus, the Chardonnay grape reigns supreme in the production of white wines from the regions chalky soil. The first wine cooperative in the Maconnais was created in 1926 by Henri Boullay. Today 15 cooperatives are responsible for the production of 75% of all white Maconnais wines. While Georges Duboeuf is no doubt best known for Beaujolais, this lovely Macon-Villages is a fine introduction to white Burgundy.Georges Duboeuf Macon-Villages is 100% Chardonnay with a color of yellow-gold. On the nose it offers complex aromas of acacia with nuances of lemon. Medium-full in body with bright acidity and nice balance, it shows flavors of green apples, citrus, almonds and hazelnuts. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation (80%) and saw no oak. This Chardonnay is crisp in the palate with lingering notes of acacia and lemon.Enjoy Georges Duboeuf Macon-Villages over the next 3-4 years with grilled chicken, baked swordfish, steamers, Cobb salad and goat cheese.
