Rather floral on the nose with an edge of caramel/black licorice candy framing the core of juniper tinged wild black and red fruits all laid over a bit or dark moist earth. legnat on entry, this has lovely ripe fruit, blackberry tinged aromatic in the mouth along with subtle african violet, licorice and earthy tones. Lively acidity brighten the palate and the tannins, slightly raw and stemmy add a zesty underlay to the fruit. Finishing very cleanly and fresh with real energy and emerging elegance this is drinking perfectly today. 90pts

This is rather tight on the nose with green apple peels, a touch of fennel, hints of orange rind and a lovely chalky, floral note. On entry, this shows some of that orange peel flavor along with a nice, chalky edge. This then narrows down and shows impressive focus on the palate, delivering pure apple flavors with a subtle return of light orange Creamsicle notes. There’s a nice texture to this, laid back but not relaxed with plenty of just ripe fruit. There is real follow through on the moderately long finish, which shows of a touch of minerality under nice, persistent apple peel notes. Elegantly balanced. 88pts

Spicy and floral on the nose with plenty of herbal accents to the soft strawberry fruit. very broad and wide open in the mouth with raspberries and strawberries. Fruity and simple but fresh and with enough structure to remain firm in the mouth though this is a touch creamy at times. 85pts

Intense and oper fumed with herb stem, thistle, beet root aromas layered over a base of roasted raspberry fruit. Bright, crisp and rather transparent in the mouth this shows off some almost black raspberry fruit framed with softly toasty notes and a gentle earthiness. lue fruit aromas emerge on the backend along with some beet root notes all leading to a fresh, clean and simple finish with lovely raspberry notes. Really lovely already. 87pts

I bought this bottle of wine from my local supermarket where it was on special offer for £5.Brouilly is the largest and most southerly of the 'Cru Beaujolais' AOC's and is named after a hill [extinct granite volcano] called Mount Brouilly around which the grapes are grown.Another Cru Beaujolais, the Cotes de Brouilly,is an AOC where the grapes are grown on the actual slopes of this hill. This is about 15 miles south-west of the town of Macon.Like all Beaujolais Brouilly and Cotes de Brouilly are made from the Gamay grape but unlike the rest of Beaujolais up to 15% of other grapes are allowed although few producers do this.Gamay is a cross between Pinot Noir and a white grape called gouais introduced by the Romans from Central Europe.Georges Duboeuf [ www.duboeuf.com ]founded his negociant business in 1964 which he still runs today and it now produces 2.5 million cases of wine a year He is very well known and sometimes called the King of Beaujolais.I started my bottle the other evening with my dinner of roast chicken. There is a blackberry or cherry like fruit there but the tannins are fairly strong.Perhaps it would improve with more bottle age.Overall I would say this is an OK bottle of wine but not one to write home about and not one I would buy again.I have had better Beajolais than this. The Eric Morin Chiroubles and Morgon as well as the Herve Varenne Morgon are better wines
