The most successful of Duboeufrsquo;s Morgons, a commune that had difficulty coping with the powerful sun, heat, and drought of the vintage, is the 2003 Morgon Jean Descombes. Produced from 20 hectoliters per hectare yields (the norm is closer to 60), it reveals violet-laced waxy black fruit aromas. Light to medium-bodied, it offers a structured character with elegant layers of floral blackberries, blueberries, and cassis. Pure, displaying lovely depth, this wine also possesses a long, angle-free finish. Drink it over the next 5 years.

Ripe and very aromatic, with maraschino cherry, chocolate, bramble and spice notes supported by bouncy acidity. Long finish shows some nice grip; needs some brief cellaring to round into form. Drink now through 2006.
