Georges Duboeuf Gd White . France Southern France Chardonnay 2005
The Pouilly-Fuisse can compete with the great wines of Burgundy, it is the "jewel" of the Mâconnais region; its color is an unrivaled golden green. A bouquet of roasted almonds, lime-tree and verbena with a hint of vanilla is apparent. Once stored in oak casks, it develops a real bouquet of flavors. A full, supple and fruity wine which ages quite well. Food and wine affinities: Fish, sea-food, game, cheese and pasta.
I should have checked the vintage before buying this one, it is fairly well past its prime. Some harshness on the nose with dried apricot, some dates and still a hint of acidity but not much of the fruit is left.
very cloudy. this wine was best after a significant time to breath, but still was unexceptional, and bland.
Very tasty light red. Always consistent and delightful!
Robert Parker gave it a 91. He whose nose is insured for one million dollars, as I learned in that marvelous piece that William Langewiesche did on him for the Atlantic. I tend to leave my wine choices to this world's most democratic wine guy, and have never been disappointed. Which may be the sign of my oeno-erudition, but even more likely oeno-ignorance, and low budget.
