What to Expect

The Gamay grape finds it's home in France's Burgundy region where it is responsible for the red wines of Beaujolais. Producing light to medium bodied wines with modest tannins and good acidity, Gamay is unfairly associated with Beaujolais Nouveau. It is capable of producing wonderful, cherry and raspberry flavored wines with earthy hints of violets and spice.

Reviews

Thin in body, slight in fruit but an overwhelming sourness and sharpness cuts through everything and makes this very hard to enjoy.

Doesn't do Beaujolais any favours in dispelling notions of 'bubblegum' and 'mouthstripping Nouveau'. It has hints of both with a bubblegum (albeit subtle) nose and tannin and acid overwhelming the black fruit. Nevertheless it will suit those who like their wine a bit stalky and austere.
