User Reviews for Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau Burgundy
Add your reviewcherries, strawberries and bubblegum, naturally very fruit forward, nice soft tannic structure, enjoyable for thanksgiving appetizer hour, for my turkey, definitely a pinot noir
Served slightly chilled. Clear purple in the glass. Straight to the point Beaujolais Nouveau with cherry and berry flavors and the characteristic banana overtones. Bright acidity. Light body. This isn't an overly complex wine but in all fairness, it isn't supposed to be. Simple and enjoyable.
Again, like the Mommessin Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau, this primeur is dark - though not quite so midnight black. The nose is more typical of macération carbonique (banana, papaya) but also more reminiscent of stems. There are also notes piquant - just a little spritz on the tongue. Less body, more acid, thinner with fewer helpful hints of promise for the more serious Crus that will follow in 18 months time. Typical Debeouf quality - if just a bit off for such a splendiferous vintage.
Brand new, fresh off the bottling line, its this year's Nouveau! Super fruity, soft and fresh - lots of strawberries throughout. Some cherry after a few seconds in the mouth and even a little mint on the finish.
As far as a nouveau goes, this one is nice. Not too young or pungent, but nicely balanced and of course brightly colored and very forward style.
Pink. Very pink. Actually smelt a bit sweaty which was surprising. Not much on the palate. Very light, of course. Tasted a bit like a strawberry candy dipped in salt - yeah almost like a margharita. It is what it is. You either like it or you don't.
This is my first beaujolais nouveau ( I know, how could that be?! ) so I wasn't sure what to expect. This particular one is a very deep, dark red with very little in the way of legs. The nose is very mildly peppery with no distinguishable scents beyond pepper and pear (to my untrained schnoz). The flavor is acceptable, tasting like a very light grape juice with some alcohol and pepper added. I get a little of the pear flavoring on the finish as well. Overall, nothing special, but drinkable. It'll be interesting to see how this years Burgundy's turn out.
External Reviews for Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau Burgundy
Beaujolais nouveau is a red wine made from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region of France. It is the most popular vin de primeur, fermented for just a few weeks then officially released for sale on the third Thursday of November. This "Beaujolais Day", or "Beaujolais Nouveau Day" sees heavy marketing from the producers, with races to get the first bottles of the vintage to different markets.
Winemaker's Notes:
Beaujolais Nouveau is a purple-pink wine that is particularly lightweight, even by the standards of Beaujolais. The method of production means that there is very little tannin, and the wine can be dominated by fruity, ester flavours of bananas and pear drops. These are enhanced by the frequent recommendation to serve the wine lightly chilled, at approximately 13°C (55°F).
