George Wyndham Founder's Reserve Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This is a touch volatile on the nose with a lot of grapey, wild berry Jolly Rancher type fruit. There’s some vanilla here as well, adding to the candied tone. Soft in the mouth, this shows some drying tannins and is very broad with creamy berry fruit. There’s a touch of freshening green spice on the back end and the acid does emerge from the fruit fairly well, but this can’t lose the candied fruit flavors. The finish is drying and toasty, and fairly short with a little heat. Easy to drink. 86 pts

We create wines that are generous and full-flavoured – for people who want more intensity and sensation from their wine experience. George Wyndham became the father of Australian Shiraz when he planted the country’s first commercial shiraz vineyard in 1830. It was here, in his vineyard and house that is now a Heritage Listed National Trust Treasure, that he dedicated his life to creating full-flavoured wines.  This proud legacy of innovation and dedication endures at Wyndham Estate, where knowledge and experience is built upon by each generation of winemakers. A wider range of distinctively full-flavoured wines are crafted today. Still, Shiraz remains the signature variety of Wyndham Estate - the birthplace of Australian Shiraz. Read less

Soy sauce, green pepper and cinnamon aromas. Dark chocolate, medium intensity black fruit, tannin and acidity in good balance.

A great food wine with classic smooth fruit, oak and tannins... I think there is a good amount of good Hunter Valley fruit... a mini-me of a good wine... 89/100

Generous, smooth, silky and opulent – some of the epithets that comes to mind in describing this wine. Nice not overtly spicy and big unlike some other Aussie shiraz. Gentle with nice tannins to supplement rather than overwhelm.

Excellent shiraz for the money. Lots of plum and spice with enough oak to really fill it out.

Smooth, rich with depth. A dependably good wine.

Secondary hints ofeucalypt, dark chocolate and vanilla bean harmonise with the fruits.PalateRipe blackberry and plum fruits dominate initially with nuances ofvanillan oak and chocolate in support. Soft velvety tannins give thewine persistence and length. The flavours are long lasting and youare left mesmerised awaiting the next mouthful

91 Points - Wine Spectator"Distinctive, with depth and mouthwatering balance to showcase the earthy, meaty cherry and beet flavors, hinting at licorice on the long, expressive finish. Best from 2012 through 2017. 200 cases imported." -H.S.
