Georg Breuer Riesling Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Only the grapes and the best barrels will make their way into a bottle with the vineyard designation. Due to strict selection a severely limited amount of naturally fermented wine is produced from these sites each year, the ultimate criterion for selection being the absolute expression of terroir, from the most perfectly ripe and healthy Riesling grapes. These wines are released approximately 18 months after harvest. Breuer wines are characterized by precise balance of flavor extract and rassig (racy) aromatic elegance from slate soils, achieved through disciplined harvesting and minuscule yields. Natural clarification results from fermentation and less contact in oak ovals. Breuer Rieslings are universal (yes, Classical) and meant for the serious table. They are ageworthy, investment-quality wines of the highest order, regarded with considerable awe by the international trade and press.

In exceptional vintages he also makes mouth watering sweet dessert wines. The estate, run with his two sons Bernhard and Heinrich, was founded in 1880 and covers 58 acres in Rudesheim and Rauenthal in the Rheingau. Today they concentrate on growing Riesling and Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder in Germany. For those who have time to spend in the region, Breuer also runs the nearby Rudesheimer Schloss hotel and restaurant, which makes a great base for exploring the surrounding vineyards. Read less
