Geoffroy Rose de Saignee Brut NV
"The NV Extra Brut Rose de Saignee Blanc de Rose is a bit of a quirky wine, but one that deserves attention. Deceptively medium in body, this vinous Champagne flows with layers of rose petals, flowers and intensely perfumed candied cherries. The nuanced finish lends a further air of intrigue. The Rose de Saignee Blanc de Rose is 58% Chardonnay, 42% Pinot Noir, all 2008 juice, that is co-macerated. It is one of the most eccentric wines I tasted this year, but I loved it. Disgorged April, 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016...93" WA 12/10
Ruby red in colour with small mouse; Lovely Pinot Noir nose - lots of red berries and a little forest floor. Great weight and body due a few remaining tannins, lots of red fruit flavours and a few hints of wild mushrooms and a fresh mineral finish.
Very rich and red; basically a sparkling red wine, which is better than it sounds. Ripe plum flavor predominates. Unusual!
