Editorial Reviews for Gascon Malbec
This is deep and briary on the nose, with sweet notes of pipe tobacco, African violet, violet pastille, mulberry and cedar. Thick and rich, this is a mouth filling, chewy Malbec that retains good acids yet offers fruit that pops with sweet ripeness. There are some nice dusty tannins here and wood spice, but it's all kept low under the ripe fruit, which recalls black cherry with some jammy strawberry nuances. A bit spicier on the finish, which is dried out by the wood tannin, though there is a lingering sweet/sour red fruit note. 86pts

Round and smoky, as is the house style. There's also the full allotment of asphalt, leather and black-plum aromas. Full and ripe on the palate, with additional plum and black cherry flavors. Finishes with a tingle, the result of slightly sharp acidity.
Rich and fleshy, with smooth blackberry and boysenberry fruit flavors augmented by sweet mocha, spice and toast notes. Long, suave finish. Offers plenty of fruit without ever getting jammy or heady. Drink now through 2006.
If you like big wines, this one is for you. The first black sip may be hard to understand, but give it some time in the glass and you'll find black cherries and cocoa scents covering a generous juiciness. The press of nervous, firm tannins will match a roasted goat chop.
Bright purple in color, with heavy smoke and rubber aromas that together come across as bacon and bitter chocolate. Cassis, plum and tobacco rest comfortably on the palate, while the finish is grapy, extracted and toasty. In recent years this wine has carved out its own style, and this vintage fits the model.
Delicious. Bright and jammy, with Zinfandel-like crushed blackberry and blueberry flavors, good concentration and muscle, and a character-adding briery note running throughout. Really nice red, really nice price. Drink now.
Lovely purity, with blackberry and blueberry fruit followed by dark chocolate and loam notes that stay fresh through the finish. Solid. Drink now through 2006.

The wine is elegant and rich in texture, with plush, round tannins and finely integrated oak characteristics. Final flavors of black spice and maple combine to create a long, velvety finish.
