Garrison Creek Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2013

Member Review by EMark:

Very pleasant wine, Lots of read fruit on the tip of the tongue--cherry, raspberry. This is in stark contrast to my usual CS experience where I get black fruit. Noticeable acid makes the fruit even more bright. A nice, easy to drink wine, but not one that I would pair with a grand dinner. We're having grilled burgers, tonight, and I'm very fine with this wine,

Garrison Creek Cellars is situated along the Washington/Oregon border on the fringes of Walla Walla (Washington side). David March, winemaker, greets visitors on the path leading into "the barn". The barn is modeled after a turn of the century (20th) barn that is actually in Oregon (I believe; ask about the story of the place and look for the image of the barn that inspired this wonderful structure, once you get inside). Inside the barn, you'll be treated to wonderful, exclusive barrel tastings and plenty of good conversation (especially if you like to talk about the character of the many varietals David is working with, or the truly impressive design of the the barn - really more of a shrine to wine if you ask me), and some fine bites to eat while you taste, too. Visits are by appointment only, but any visit to Walla Walla would be absolutely incomplete without stopping here. I don't believe in coloring people's palattes too much ahead of time (taste is completely subjective), but if you love bold Cabs with flavors that linger and evolve the more you sip, Garrison Creek's Cabs will knock you off your feet. Once you've had a chance to taste the other varietal's David has in the barrel room too (or from the bottle), like me, you'll start planning your next visit before you finish your last sip! This wine (all of Garrison Creek's current releases I would say) is perfectly structured, with a floral and and tobacco nose, a finish that just keeps going and going, and flavors that evolve through berries, sweet spices and licorice, to leather and a little bit of chocolate or caramel. Quite simply, this is one of the best cabs I have ever tasted anywhere in the world.
