Ganton and Larsen Prospect Winery Councils Punch Bowl Sauvignon Blanc 2006
External Review by Appellation America:
This is one of a series of wines under a new brand (ultimately a new winery) emerging from the Mission Hill Family Estate winery, with labels celebrating Okanagan history. Council’s Punch Bowl is a historic lake in the British Columbia interior. It’s made under the direction of Mission Hill director of winemaking, New Zealand born and trained John Simes. As one might expect, he brings the sure touch of a New Zealand winemaker to a variety iconic to that country and now doing remarkably well in the Okanagan.Accordingly, the wine begins with aromas of grapefruit and minerals. The herbaceousness inherent to this variety is well under control here. The flavours include a delicate touch of lime on the finish. The acidity is fresh and crisp but not sharp. The wine’s restrained alcohol (12.5%) adds to its refreshing drinkability. 86 points.
