Gamla Cabernet Sauvignon the Reserve Upper Galilee 2009

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Here's a reserve cab from Israel's Upper Galilee, a region with ideal sun exposure and high altitude to temper the heat. The grapes develop over a long season and take on complex nuances while maintaining balance and delicacy. Aged 12 months in French oak this wine is a 90 point Editors' Choice in Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said "Scents of vanilla bean and crushed violet add interest to the dark-fruit driven bouquet. The firmly structured mouth shows the same depth of flavor, with concentrated notes of boysenberry and cassis that are matched similarly strong earthy elements of black tea leaves and leathery spice."

Gamla:
Gamla is the winery credited with catapulting the Israeli wine industry, founded in 1982 by Peter Stern in partnership with Golan Heights winery. While much of the country is rather hot and inhospitable for wine growing, Golan Heights wines are produced in high elevations with the perfect microclimates for grape balance and structure. Gamla is also part of the brand of wines that produces Yarden and Golan Heights wines.
