Editorial Reviews for Gamba Zinfandel Russian River Valley Old Vine
Lots of oak on the meaty nose with deep, jammy black berry fruit that’s accented by vanilla, and a nice briary backdrop. This is big in the mouth with peppery aromatics and bright, pure blackberry fruit. There’s a nice lightness here though the bed of modest tannins lends some firmness to the mid-palate that leads to a rather long, fruit and spice driven finish where the dark oak spice shows with a bit more intensity. The alcohol shows a touch on the finish but this is full throttle Zinfandel but not over-done. 91pts
Interesting Zin. Fruity and almost jammy. It has a lot going on, leaning a little towards a dessert side. This was part of a wine tasting showdown. More on the tastings at http://dionyshius.blogspot.com/2012/03/showdown-saturday.html
A party for the palate. Big, rich, voluptuous, and hedonistic. Yet there is an underlying acidity providing good balance that highlights the dark berry, bramble fruit component. Ultimately satisfying and delicious.
Outstanding. Smooth, ripe berry flavors but not jammy. Nice long finish.
This was simply a great Zin. Aromas and matching flavors of dark berries, cedar, mocha with a great structured tannin. This is a great wine for true Zin lovers. SDWC.
i loved this zin, to me this is how they should taste. lots of fruit and well balanced.
Not bad; not bad at all.
Deep dark red with smooth gradient from a lighter red rim to a near sepia center. Detectable alcohol on the nose with stronger scents of cedar, spice, and a small amount of a juniper berry bush. Excellent fruit up front (plums and blackberries) with pepper and hits of oak. Well balanced but a little acidic on the finish. Overall a very enjoyable Zin.
