The 2006 Gamba Old Vine Zinfandel Moratto Vineyard is a fruit-driven wine, bold and intense, offering a compelling nose of ripe berry fruits, mocha, anise and spicy aromas. The color is a brilliant, deep dark violet. This is always a unique Zin experience, offering an intense array of effusive dark stone fruit, including plum, ripe nectarine, and dark berry flavors. Well structured, showing integrated toasty oak, cedar tones, and youthful tannins, this lively wine should cellar well for 5-7 years. 650 casesPlanted in the Russian River Valley on a gently rolling hillside in 1920, the Moratto read more...vineyard is organically farmed, producing low yields of outstanding fruit. This spectacular hillside vineyard site is truly a shining star among the relatively few old vine vineyards left in Sonoma County. The Russian River Valley experienced a relatively cool growing season for most of 2006. Due to the typical extended hang time experienced year to year, the flavors in the vineyard again matured slowly and fully. Clouds converged and trace amounts of moisture fell near harvest time that did little more than wash the dust off the leaves. Within a short period of time winds swept through the vineyards drying the vines, and the sun was again working its magic to ripen the fruit. Sunshine continued to full ripening, and allowed for a dry harvest and a fully mature crop. A careful hand harvest and meticulous sorting provided us with the best grapes for crush. We were pleased with the results of our labors, and hope you will enjoy this delicious 2006 expression of Zin from the Moratto Vineyard.

- Killer zin....nice structure and balance, with soft tannins and nice forward fruit. Black cherry and raspberry on the nose - approachable and drinkable now, but I'm laying mine down for a while to see how it opens up. Good value too.
