Gallo Family Vineyards Pinot Gris Sonoma Coast Pinot Grigio/Gris Sonoma 2006
Gentle handling from the vineyard to the winepress, then soft pressing of the grapes gave this wine a head start for flavor and body. This wine is primarily stainless steel fermented to keep the bright fruit flavors, and a small portion was barrel fermented to add dimension and body.
Our Gallo Family Vineyards Estate wines are the signature of our family’s fine wine portfolio. After hand-selecting only the best grapes from our Estate vineyards, our winemakers patiently craft these wines with ultimate care, producing only a limited number of cases. Both the domestic and international wine community have consistently recognized our Estate wines as among the world’s best.
External Reviews for Gallo Family Vineyards Pinot Gris Sonoma Coast Pinot Grigio/Gris Sonoma
This affordable wine is Exhibit A on why Pinot Gris/Grigio is such a hot variety. It's like a cross between Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, brisk and clean on the one hand, and rich and fruity on the other.
There sure is a lot of fruitiness in this wine from a cool, ocean-influenced region. Suggests everything from apples and peaches to melons and figs. It's basically dry, with pretty good acids. Could be a bit firmer, but it's juicy and rich.
There's little or no oak on this wine to mask the pure fruit flavors that are boosted by succulent acidity. It's an explosion of pineapples, tart green apples, figs, spicy melons and kiwi fruit, with a tangy, white peppery finish. Easy to enjoy, yet fancy enough for that white tablecloth.
A real pleasing wine, all tank-fermented and aged, is the crisp, fresh, richly fruity 2005 Pinot Gris, which is certainly a food-friendly wine.
Clean and pristine as a cool mountain stream, vibrantly flowing with rich honeydew melon flavors.
Spicy and earthy, with soft flavors of honeysuckle, citrus and white berries. Drink now.
Readers looking for an apple skin and orange rind-scented, crisp, dry, medium-bodied white should check out the 2007 Pinot Gris. It is a nicely textured, fresh, lively wine to enjoy over the next 1-2 years.
