Galil Cabernet 2005
Galil Yiron comes from the higher elevations of the Upper-Galilee part of the Galilee viticultural area considered the best winegrowing area in Israel. This wine is a blend of 54 %Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot. Its has deep red color; ripe and intense with blackberry cr?me de cassis cherry jam and prune layered with tobacco and spicy oak dried herbs and vanilla. A complex full-bodied wine with a long rich sustained finish.
Take into account the price tag for this wine (under $25 in most of the shops I have found it... see Skyview Wines in Riverdale NY for great deals on this and the Yiron Syrah as well), and I would say it is the best all around value for a great, medium to full-bodied, Bordeaux blend with a great range of berry and oak. The finish is terrific, but could stick around a drop longer. The 2005 vintage is drinking beautifully right now, but should age well for another 2-3 years. Salute!
