- This Piedmont beauty is dark in color and beautifully compacted on the midpalate, where it displays gorgeous blackberry, black cherry, mint and spicy oak notes. Tannins are firm and ripe. A serious red that needs time. Best from 2002 through 2008.

- IWC 93-95 (12/1998): Even deeper ruby color. More subdued, pristine aromas of licorice, violet, blackberry and minerals. Full and densely packed; very young but seems more harmonious today than the '97. Penetrating, lively and sharply delineated. Shows a distinct toffee quality from the wood. Explosive yet subtle finish, with the fruit carrying well beyond the tannins.

- "96,Wine AdvocateIt is hard to argue with those who claim that the finest of these single-vineyard offerings is always the Sori Tilden. The 1996 Sori Tilden reveals a pigmented/saturated ruby/purple color in addition to a tight nose, with aromas of blackberries, cherry liqueur, smoke, licorice, incense, and spice box. Enormous on the palate, with multiple layers of fruit, soft tannin, huge body, and a knock-out finish, it is backward and brawny. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030. "

- WS 93 (12/2007): Aromas of tar, ripe fruit and light oak follow through to a full-bodied palate, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still a bit tight. Muscular and a little unyielding, but impressive. Needs more time.--1996 Piedmont retrospective. Best after 2008. 837 cases made.
